Walking Trail
In 2014 The Clearhills Watershed Initiative Society applied through the Land Stewardship Centre for the first time offered “Wetlands Grant”. Contacting the Hines Creek Museum the Clearhills Watershed members went through a preexisted walking trail that had completely deteriorated in a marshland area. A plan was made to utilize this grant to update and replace the old walkways by making it more user friendly and accessible to groups visiting the museum. The purpose to draw in school groups and visitors for a chance to discover the resources of the wetlands and its habitants.
Work began and the planning, sourcing out materials was under way. Many volunteer hours where put in and volunteer equipment brought in along with manual labor. A mulcher and manual labor cleared a trail through the area and old corrugated walks where taken out. New walkways where put into places that were low and inaccessible. Paths were made wider and the trail longer. This was to draw in spectators to discover the habitant of the wetlands. Signs guide you from the start to the finish with information of many of the habitant you might be lucky to see, along with beautiful vegetation. The Wetlands are a wonderful addition to our Northern Area and have many purposes that everyone should enjoy and discover. The trail is a leisurely 10 to 15 min walk and will amaze you of its beauty and tranquility.
Bringing groups together and working together build a sense of community spirit and in that a number of projects can take place for everyone to enjoy and enhance our Northern Area.
The accomplishment of this walkway is from the persistent of hard workers from the community and the groups that took this initiative to bring the project to life. Come and enjoy the walk into an area usually inaccessible and be right in the middle of it. Project was completed in spring 2016 and opened for visitors to enjoy.
